Hi, I’m new to avast!. I’ve used AVG for years, with mixed success. After a quite nasty virus, I wanted to try avast! v7 free edition. I’m very pleased with it so far! However, during installation, I believe I had the option of setting it as a backup to the AVG prg? I cannot find how to do that now, after install. I have both avast! and AVG running concurrently. Perhaps I should just dump AVG? But I’m just sure that I saw an option to run both during installation. Is this correct? If so, do I need to set avast! to back up AVG? Or can I run them together? I’d rather have AVG as back up, now that I’m so impressed with avast!. But I cannot find that option. I will go to their forums for that. Any recommendations?
Lack of sleep makes people stupid. I can’t sleep, therefore…
There is a custom install mode which allows you to have avast as a secondary scanner with most functions disabled but i think to do it when you have already installed avast is not possible ??? might require reinstalling to access that feature ???
No you shouldn’t have two AV’s on the same system, personally i would remove AVG then run the AVG removal tool and install Malwarebytes as my backup to avast

I agree with DavidR and completely uninstall A V G and use Avast as your AV. Reboot.
Since you currently have 2 AV’s on your system now, you may have to uninstall Avast using the Avast Uninstaller Tool: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and reinstall it for everything to work correctly. Let us know how things go.
Thank you to you all! I wasn’t thinking about personal info. Oops. Hey, I swear I’m not a technotard, I’m just horribly, horribly, sleep-deprived :-\ Thank you for the all the suggestions. I’m going to go w/ just dumping AVG. I will use the malware prog yall suggested as back up. Back in the day, AVG was the shiznit. Not so much anymore. Sigh. Thank dog for avast!
(Excuse my brain decay. I hope to grow a few neurons back soon.)
