New To Avast-Help With Setting Please

I just started using Avast and am very happy with it. I found the answers to most of my questions but I am confused about one thing. I use Online Armor 2.1.0.119 paid without AV. I am getting the following errors:

Warning
AAVM - scanning warning: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx [UNI]: C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\server.dat (C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\server.dat) returning error, 00000005.

Error
AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\server.dat failed, 00000005.

Warning
AAVM - scanning warning: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx [UNI]: C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\fwdata.dat (C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\fwdata.dat) returning error, 00000005.

Error
AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\fwdata.dat failed, 00000005.

I found a previous post about the problem and the answer was to add the following files to the Avast Standard Shield exclusion list. Could you please tell me where the exclusion list is for the Standard Shield? I added them under Standard Shield>custom>advanced but I am still getting the errors in the log.

I’ve had a long day and I’m probably missing something obvious.

Thanks

Try shutting off Online Armors web shield since its not needed.

The 05 error is access denied, which because of the location and nature of the program it is associated with I’m not surprised that access is denied. So nothing to worry about.

What I can’t understand is when are these .dat files being scanned ?
e.g. is is as part of an on-demand scan that you started OR is it part of the resident on-access scan.
If it is part of the on-access scanning then I believe you have the standard shield sensitivity set on High as by default .dat files wouldn’t be scanned I believe.

What is the sensitivity of the Standard Shield, Normal is the default ?

Thanks for the reply.

I have web shield turned off in Online Armor and standard shield is set on high. I changed it from normal to high after reading a post that recommended that. Do I get better protection on high or doesn’t it make a difference?

I don’t think you will find a topic recommending you increase the sensitivity of the Standard Shield to High, Yes for the Web Shield and Internet Mail, but those are all that I would recommend.

On High the standard shield scans every file you access even those one unlikely to be able to infect you. Normal scans all executables and files that are known to infect/become infected, etc. This provides a good balance between protection and performance and you won’t see the above errors either.

Thank you. Setting the standard shield back to normal solved the problem.

No problem, glad we could help.
