New to avast. Infection detected. HELP NEEDED!

Hello. I’m new to avast. I work on an iMac and the avast popup alert says infection detected.

Can someone tell me what I do with this information?

– Do I automatically run a full system scan? Which takes hours… can I continue working whilst it’s scanning or could I potentially open the infection?
or
– Does it automatically move the infection into the virus chest (doesn’t appear to be in there though).

Is there a quick scan option?

I couldn’t find a user manual for avast.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

and the avast popup alert says infection detected.
can you give all the info on the popup ..... or attach a screenshot

Here you go: http://files.avast.com/files/documentation/avast-free-antivirus-for-mac-quick-start-guide-en.pdf

Thanks for the link to the user guide Asyn. That should help!

And Pondus, whilst I figure out how to upload an image to this forum the info on the popup was this…

Mail shield has detected a threat.

Infection: Win32:Trojan-gen
Subject: 20/06/2014 Photo
From: jyp1025@samwhapaper.com
File: photo.zip/photo.scr

Thanks!

Thanks for all your help.

I did a full scan, it didn’t bring up the infected file so I manually searched for this and added to the virus chest. I also used one online tool on the file, so thanks for those links.

The user manual is very basic and didn’t help much, I imagine once avast finds an infection it deals with it straight away, bit it is unclear.

You’re welcome.
