New to Avast

Hi all, I’m new to this Avast and have a big problem trying to get ride of w32/Netsky virus. It infected my puter last night and I’ve been trying to get rid of it all day. Another virus scan I have had for a long time could not detect all the files infect and with each try, the virus kept coming back. I found this Avast by accident and thought I’d give it a try. Everything looks good since I ran the free scan but how do I know it is really gone? I don’t even know if I have downloaded the entire Avast program or if it is in my computer. Any help would be appreciated. My server has just sent me an email saying I sent them an infected email, which I have not sent anyone an email today. Is this going to go out to all my friends & family too? yikes :o

Hi,

  • you don’t know if you have avast installed ?? ???
do you have a blue ball down next to the clock ?
look in start → programs and consult the help files of avast

  • you can also try avast_s Cleaner → see homepage www.avast.com

Hi,
Netsky is detected for ages by updated AV-Scanners like avast

Receiving an email alert stating that the virus came from your email address is NOT necessarily an indication that you are infected
as the virus often forges the from address:

  • somewhere in the infinite reaches of the universe/internet, a PC is infected with netsky AND has your Email-adress saved somewhere.
The Worm then sends out itself with fake sender-adress; a Mailserver-Scanner then wrongly interprets this virus-mail as coming from you, and sends you the above (inappropriate and useless) reply.

what does a full scan with updated avast say ?
if it says your PC is clean, it most probably is

Read the virusinfos (see below) on netsky
For the future:
apply all Windowsupdates, and configure your Mail-Program and Web-Browser more securely (see board-search above)

Hi,

Once Avast finds a virus and not able to repair it, click on the button “Move to Chest”. This way the virus will be placed in a “virtual container” where it cannot spread. In short, the virus will become inactive.

Balaji.

Thanks for the Reply!
Finally I can answer. I do have Avast now and have the little blue balls. I have ran it several times, finding w32. virus each time. Just when I think its gone, the next thing I know it is back. I’m baffled! I put it in the chest, so whats the problem? I also had a very hard time getting back to this forum to reply to any messages posted as well, it kept saying I was logged out. Any one know why this keeps happening?
Thanks for your help

If you’re going through hotmail (unlikely, but 1 in a thousand chance :-P) then it will do that, i think…

It kept on saying i was logged out since i was trying to reply with clicking the link sent to my email, but wouldnt work with hotmails browser… Comin to the site manually fixed it though…

Hope it helps  (Sorry i cant give more advice… Im pretty comp illiterate when it comes down to it lol)

Hi,
please make a boot-time scan with avast and delete them…
