New to Linux

Hello,

I am very new to Linux on my old machine I had it on but I just purchased a new one. I was having problems with Linux on my old machine so I would like to know what Linux version is the easiest to a newb like me. That will offer easy wireless internet access. I also ordered the Ubuntu CD’s and have them now. Also my plan is to dual boot Linux and Windows. I am currently looking in to disk partitioning without formating maybe Norton Partition Magic.

Thank you,

Ubuntu or SUSE are very complete and (easy) to install Linux versions.
You’ll have to search and learn a little about dual-boot systems, choose, decide, be prepared to make s*it ;D
Which system will be your ‘default’, Windows or Linux?

I had my old system dual booting and I know how to do it properly without messing anything up. But with SuSE I was having problems with Wireless. See my system in my signature.

If your wireless card is not supported by Linux than you will need to use ndiswrapper.

Hi,

Thank you everyone who has replied so far. As some of you know by some of my more recent posts, I do not buy software online but my father is letting me use his credit card and I am looking at purchasig Paragon Partition Manager. I would like to hear your opinions on this partitioner software. I am looking at buying the Personal Edition

Just install SuSe open source and it will partition your HD between Linux and Windows for you. Save your money for some new hardware or something else useful.

Hi,

Yes it will partition my drive but it will cost me a format. I cannot afford to lose any data at the moment. So I will just keep Windows XP and use my money to buy avast! Professional!

I want a sales commission from Avast for making that sale. ;D

Lol nice one Culpeper ;D

I think the easier are the full versions, all included, then you can learn, try, mess ;D
I’d suggest SUSE distro (http://en.opensuse.org/Welcome_to_openSUSE.org)
