New to the forums/Virus(?) question.

Hiya,

I’ve only posted once here (by tagging on to another thread) and didn’t really understand the replies I got (nobdody’s fault, just me) , so I thought I’d try a post of my own, and also try to clear up one or two things at the same time.

Previously I used Norton’s Internet Security 2005, but have recently started using avast! version 4.6 Home Edition. I have found the below “infected” files, and moved them to the Chest, as I’m not sure what the files are, so don’t want to delete them without knowing.
NAME VALUE
Original File Name pskavs.dll
Original Folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\ActiveScan
Size Of File 2027008
Last Modification Time 08/09/2005 12:37:32
Time Of Transfer To Chest 10/01/2006 16:11:12
Category Infected Files
Virus Description Win32:CTX
File ID 4.

Original File Name A0146503.dll
Original Folder C:\System Volume Information_restore{50A84BE0-5826-4821-B8C5-82A0578CCB76}\RP250
Size Of File 2027008
Last Modification Time 08/09/2005 12:37:32
Time Of Transfer To Chest 11/01/2006 11:56:15
Category Infected Files
Virus Description Win32:CTX
File ID 5

Please could someone explain what these files are, what they’re “infected” with, and what I should do about it?

The other thing I wanted to ask about is that when I do a full system scan using avast, at the end I get a long list - the latest one being 228 “lines”, all with the “result” of “Unable To Scan, Archive Is Password Protected”.

Can someone please explain to me what this is about too please?

I’m using WindowsXP Home, I’m on Cable Broadband with NTLworld. I also use Spybot, Ad-aware, and SpywareBlaster. (I also have the Windows Firewall activated).

Thanks for your time,

Spike.

Hello

Here’s a similar topic :> http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=19016.msg160698#msg160698

 Hi Spike :

To increase your computer's security, it would be a good
idea to install "Ewido", which "specializes" in detecting &
removing trojans, worms, dialers, etc ; this program is
available from www.ewido.net/en . The "Windows Firewall"
is considered only better than nothing; would be wise to
install a software firewall, and there are free ones
available, such as Zone Alarm, Kerio, Sygate, etc .
