Been using avast for many years now and just joined this forum, wish I had paid attention before. Such good advise from the Mods in here, I just wanted to say “Thank-You” I recently had a few computers come to me with that “winxp 2011 antivirus” virus and if I would of been more attuned to this forum, I could of dealt with it differently. Now with the answers I found here, it cut a lot of time helping my friends out. I am not a tech by any means, just a guy who knows enough to be dangerous…lol. I do work on Building Automation Systems, but that’s a bit of different ball of wax. Thanks Again!
Welcome to the forums.
Yes there is a wealth of information on the forums for those who seek it.
It would be unusual if you had a problem that hadn’t been covered before, just finding it at times can be the hardest part.
Thanks! At work we have several operators on the Building automation computer, and since this system runs well on windows xp, we are connected to the internet for remote log in when we are on call. We all program different programs to run schedules…but I think some of the operators surf nefarious sites, and also do it during a remote log in sessions. I keep an eye on it however (as is part of my job), but you can’t control stupid (for lack of a better word) But a big shout out to you mods and the support staff at avast! Also to avast! of course for the best av out there (IMHO) and also Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. Good programs which I advise anyone to have on their computer.
Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum jerico380.
It’s nice that someone actually uses the search function. ;D
I am on Vacation…so a lot of time on my hands…lol. It’s all good though, because with my schedule,(work, fix friends computers, work, fix my own computer, work, fix friends computers)I don’t get much time…oh yea, then there is work calling when I am on vacation…lol.

Thanks…I’ve learned much from these forums in the last few days. I believe in 3 computer tasks…( besides the obvious like avast!, a firewall and spyware/malware programs) is "disk clean-up, defrag, and security controls. A good practice is to always clean your cookies, as I know some people don’t do it after an internet session. A defrag is a good thing once a month (unless you download and delete a lot, then perhaps more frequent) and paying attention to your security controls. At work and at home, I use as high as they get unless it impedes my performance, but I have yet to see that. avast! is set on the highest and scanning is set to late at night when I know that I won’t be on it. Keep up the good work and thanks for keeping us all Informed and safe
A good practice is to always clean your cookies, as I know some people don't do it after an internet session. A defrag is a good thing once a month (unless you download and delete a lot, then perhaps more frequent)Cookies aren't anything to worry about but I eat mine regularly especially the animal type cookies. If you're running windows 7, defraging is done by the system unless you've changed your default settings. :)
