I use avast home as my primary virus software and monthly double check with avg. Avast showed 0 infected files today while AVG showed 4 but couldn’t delete them. I downloaded the kapersky trial and they were identified and deleted.
The infected files were attached to software that had been downloaded including adaware and abiword.
I did a search for it on the board but haven’t found mention of it:
There are some things I think you don’t know. There are several catogories of files that are harmfull for a system like:
Viruses, Trojans, Worms, Spyware, Adware, BrowserHijackers. Anti virus software (as the name says) primary task is to detect viruses. Some anti virus software also detects other things, but it is not their main business to do so. So for a full scan of a system for harmfull things you need several things. (Click on the link in my signature for more info)
Both Ad-Aware and Abiword don’t contain any malicious things if you download them. So I wonder where you got them from, can you tell me?
You say you did a search on the Boards, this represents only a fraction of the available information on the web.
A search on Google for trojandownloader.win32.inservice returned 72 hits in 0.30 seconds - learn to use Google it is a great resource and your friend as my sig says.
I assumed you are the one who downloaded ad-aware and abiword.
Anyway, ALWAYS download the software from the devellopers website or a (by them) recognized mirror. NEVER use applications as Kazaa, Emule, WinMX etc to download things. They are a true pool filled with viruses and other harmfull stuff.
If you want software either buy it or find a true freeware application, in my work I’ve seen people loosing years of work/data. Caused by illegal software.
