new update does not work !!!!

I am using the free edition of avast AV, but when I log on my avast it advises there is a new update…
well I have tried to installed this now three times but I cannot get it to work
for some reason Windows does not like it and windows comes up with a message it must close and the program disappears.it was giving me all sorts of problems and I could not get the older program to work after either after so had to restore back to an earlier date with True image 2010 so I now have the older program working now I was wondering if there is any help and will I be OK to carry on using my present program which is 4.8 home.

Please give is more information about your system such as OS, other security programs, etc.

When you wanna install the new version, you have to utilize “Uninstall Utility” to completely uninstall the old one.

Subsequently, after ensuring the old one is deleted, you install the new one.

Its ok I got the solution direct from Avast and its all now working. Its a bit long winded to type on here but if anyone
wants to know let me know and i will forward to email with all the instructions.

Was the answer to do with disabling the self protection, uninstalling, running the uninstall utility, and installing the new version?

Um…removing the version in the computer and download the lastest one and then install.
Not a bad idea instead of waiting like this :slight_smile:
