To a certain extent, avast is banking on it’s non-tech users to just do a regular install and except all the defaults.
As well as the A/V shields, some other components get installed, as you can see. Whether they’re worth anything to you
or whether avast is the main beneficiary of you installing them, is open for debate. I have never installed any of them.

Tech users always do a custom install, this allows you to deselect Skype or Chrome and all of the optional components
as you wish.
