Hi.
Just installed Avast4 on 2 computers (WinXP and W98).
Some basic questions…

  1. When I do a scan, looks like if no virus found, then program just ends without any kind of message.
  2. Is there a report/log created from above scan and where is it?
  3. What/how is the Log Viewer used?
    4)When I installed on WinXP, it prompted me to do an update of ‘Program Update’ and ‘iAVSupdate’, but with the Win98 update it did not! Should I do this update on the W98 computer?

Welcome to this board.

1] You will notice it for sure if Avast had found something.
2] Log file is in the Avast folder, or start Avast > Menu > Log viewer
3] See 2
4] Avast checks for updates when first connected to the net (eg: after install, reboot etc). After that Avast checks every 4 hours for new updates. You can change this behaviour in the Avast4.ini file.

I suggest you take some time to get familiar with Avast and its settings. Read the Help/Manual and have a look HERE. This will answer already many of the questions you have.

Besides what Eddy said, the reports are stored into the \Avast4\Data\Report folder.

The reports are for scanning and to see if you have infected files. The logs are for errors, in the program, while scanning, etc.

Yes, you should update the program frequently to be safe.
You can set the updates to automatic if you want :wink:
