New user, have two issues I need addressed

I ran the on demand scanner on a test virus I have (identified as Trojandownloader.istbar.is by Ewido, and something similar by AVG. We can assume its real.

Avast does not recognise is at all. The second problem is, the scan window closes itself very quickly, too fast to read.

I also tested it on Eicar, the test virus, and that WAS seen, so the engine is working. What’s the deal with the only virus I tested not being detected (100% failure is not good).

PS I checked the database and there are a number of istbar listings there, but its not being detected.

Avast is primarly a av, not a ad-/spyware remover.
The people from Alwil concentrate on detection of real threads.
Detecting/removing ad-/spyware is not their primary concern.

To protect and clean a system you need to use multiple applications.

According to the latest VGREP, only 3 av’s do recognize that bar.

I must say that a Trojan is a REAL THREAT. Adware no, but a program that can allow access to your data is MORE DANGEROUS than a virus.

How about the window closing when a scan finds nothing? Is that fixable.

Do you have a sample of it to send an email with the file to? virus@avast.com

Yes I will send a sample.

Also, what about the scan window shutting down so fast I can’t see the result?

What type of scan are you doing, I suspect the right click context menu scan?

If so, Show results of Explorer Extension.:

Check the option ‘Show results of Explorer Extension’ in the Common tab of settings to see what you get like David said.

Yes indeed, that cured the results window problem. Maybe the default should be SHOW RESULTS, and let the user turn it off if they don’t want to see it. I’m an experienced user and don’t recall seeing an option like this default to ‘no show’.

I sent along a sample of the infected file, so they can see why it doesn’t get detected.
