Hi everyone!
I installed Avast on my husband’s computer and it works like a dream, so I decided to download it for mine. I did my first scan and it said:
“183 - Cannot create a file when that file already exists”
And it doesn’t acknowledge that it ever did a scan. I have a Sony VAIO VGC-RA710G.
Anyone have this problem before? Any ideas?

Can you right click the ‘a’ blue icon and choose avast Log Viewer?
Is there any information about this error there?

I did the right-click and under the Error button, there were 562 errors! I really don’t know where to start now. And it’s not letting me cut/paste any of them. Grrrrr. Maybe I should uninstall and reinstall?
Select the lines with the error messages.
Right click them and export to a txt file.
Then you can open this file in notepad, copy and paste here.
If it’s too much, just remove identical lines.
But I won’t be worried. Maybe the errors aren’t that critical.

All errors listed begin the same way:
AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: followed by various file names
The only error message that says anything different is 2880 aswSplash - Program error description 183 = Cannot create a file when that file already exists.
And there are 659 warnings that say the same: AAVM - scanning warning…

Don’t worry. Maybe files in use or files that avast can’t unpack (manage). They’re not necessarily infected. You can try boot time scanning:
Click on the Menu button.
Choose Schedule Boot Time Scan.
Doing so displays a dialog allowing you to schedule virus scanning.
Check Archives, if you want scan all the archives.
Specify whether all the disks or just a specific folder should be scanned.
Select Advanced options for scheduling details.
Select how to automatically process infected files > I suggest send to Chest.
Choose how to automatically process infected system files > I recommend ignore delete/move for system files.
Click the Schedule button to confirm the settings.
