Hi
Just done a thorough scan of my pc…it detected 2 viruses and the recommended action was ‘send to chest’, which I done.
Is it safe to delete these from the chest? Or what should I do? Details below
Virus description: Win32:Trojan-gen. {UPX!}
Original folder: C:\System Volume Information_restore
Original file name: A0000366.exe
Virus description: Win32:Trojan-gen. {UPX!}
Original folder: C:\RECYCLER
Original file name: Dc1.exe
Leave them in the chest for now, although both viruses were were in system restore/recycle bin. Your best bet is to turn off system restore, reboot then turn it back on again. You are safe.
You have done the right thing, ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, they can’t do any harm there. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a week or two. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.
Trojan-gens are often spyware and avast! will not clean out the infection completely. A specialist spyware scanner will scan the registry and remove malware entries.
The following have free scanners are highly recommended:
