New user with a question

Hi there. I just installed Avast! Home edition on Saturday and didn’t have any problems with the installation process. However, I was prompted to restart after it finished so I did that. Upon, start-up avast! started scanning and it’s still going today. Is there something wrong? Is the initial scan supposed to take this long? What’s going on here?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

i don’t think so unless you have a supper mega computer with millions of gigs ? did you have something previously installed ie;AVG NORTON McAfee ? if yes you should go to their site and check for a uninstaller and perform a mechanic uninstallation preferably im safe mode but not necessarily.then uninstall AVASt and reinstall it again.Update it and do the scanning . download SUPERANTISPYWARE free and install it and do a thorough scan with it . you will be fine i guess

Yes, actually I was previously using AVG and had some trouble uninstalling. There were some files in the system folder that would not delete. I will try your suggestions. Thanks!

I suggest you to uninstall AVAST and reinstall AVG then go in safe mode and uninstall avg .afterward go back in normal mode and proceed with avast installation and the rest of what i said before.

If it helps, AVG Remover download here: http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-tools

Avg remover did not work properly with the latest avg 8.5 so it is safer to reinstall and uninstall it in safe mode.

Thanks. Does it have another specialized tool to uninstall AVG?

I think Revo uninstaller will do some work but not sure enough. I had problems with it. reintalling and uninstalling in safe mode may help more than anything else. Other people are having problems with AVG >:( >:( >:( >:(

Revo does not work well when the uninstaller requires boot to work.

Hi

I’ve had Avast on my Laptop for a couple of months now 8)
However!
On my Desktop Computer … I’ve only had Avast for about 4 weeks.

Re : My Desktop

Before Avast I had AVG - Paid :frowning:
About 3 days before I’d finally had enough… & … Uninstalled It!
AVG 8 … Updated To … AVG 8.5 ::slight_smile:
Figuring that the AVG Removal Tool probably wouldn’t be fully compatible with AVG 8.5 … I decided to try - Revo Uninstaller
What I Did Was…
When it got to the bit where AVG wanted me to Restart the computer to complete the uninstall… I just exited the Reboot box ;D
( Can’t quite remember if I clicked - Restart Later … OR … Just clicked the Exit X )
But Anyway!
This lets Revo carry on with what it supposed to do
When Revo had finished… Then I Restarted The Computer!

Then Run The Latest - AVG Removal Tool
