Hi, I just today set up Avast on my computer after having many problems with Norten 2005. I have a couple of questions.
Does Avast provide firewall protection?
After performing my first scan, I have 17 infected files. Now, beside all those infected, it says that Error occurred while trying to move, and so I tried to delete and it said the same thing. Error occurred.
I need help! I have been working for hours on trying to get my email back!
Katrina
Hi katrinas79,
Welcome to the forum.
Please help us help you.
What version of Avast! are you using
What vps version?
What OS?
What exactly is the error message? (If you are getting one.)
The path and filename is of great help.
etc. etc.
The more info you supply, the easier it is for us to solve your problem.
Avast does not provide firewall protection. Only AV protection. If you don’t have a Firewall, please get one.

Windows protects some files that because of their location may be system files and or they are running. You can schedule a boot-time scan from the avast menu.
Avast (as well as NAV) is Anti-Virus software, not a firewall. If you want a good firewall (very much recommended to have one), get a router with hardware firewall.
Files can only be deleted/moved if they are not in use. Perform the boot time scan as David suggested.
I have been working for hours on trying to get my email back!
Very likely you could have done this in minutes if you read the help file.
Since you are new to Avast, I strongly suggest you read the help file and do some browsing/searching on this board. Make yourself familiar with how Avast is working and what it is offering the user. Learn what the settings mean and do.
Well,
I will tell you what all I am using.
Abvast: Version 4.5 Home Edition
VPS version: 0502-2
Windows 2000
Microsoft Office 2003
Sygate Firewall 5.6
Ad-aware
Spybot
Here is the problem; after I run a scan, I have infected files in the "Results of last Scan box.
under file column: C:\sh.exe\winconfig.exe
Under result: Infection:Win32:Trogen-gen.{UPX!}
Under Operation: Error occurred during file deleting: Invalid access to memory location. (it says this Error by files I wanted it to move to the “chest”
I made a mistake when I said I have been trying to get my email back all day. I was scared to open it in that it would give me a virus.
I am sorry I hadn’t read the Help yet, and I will do that right now.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks, Katrina

This indicates to me that you didn’t run a boot-time scan, but a regular scan whilst windows is running (and protecting files in use). Run a boot-time scan as suggested and shown in the image.
