New version [11.1.2253] on Win XP makes PC unusable

i have 3 computers running avast [paid version] one win 10 and 2 win xp … win 10 upgraded ok as well as one of my xp pcs … my other xp pc after the reboot does not function [no mouse, keyboard] - completely dead after the welcome screen. alt-cnlt-del does not work. i tired using last know good to no avail. i now have a completely dead computer … this was the only upgrade/install on this pc for a long time and this happened when avast requested to reboot the pc to finish the upgrade.

Scroll down to “If you cannot Boot the computer” and follow the instructions.

i went into safe mode, removed Avast, computer is fine. i re-installed fresh and have same issue.

Eddy - thanks but it is not malware related.

He did not say it was

Did you remove any (previous) installed av completely before installing avast ?
And please attach the logs as requested.
They are diagnostic logs and can be useful with removing malware but they are certainly not limited to that.

file attached. thanks for your time

There is no sign of Avast on this but, there is TrendMicro

We will try a restore point first

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Start FRST and press fix
On completion try a normal boot

I removed Avast as the pc was inoperable with it running. Trend was once on the pc [most files removed, remaing ‘locked’ by user who installed it] - is not running.

I tried safe mode/previous restore point but that did not work as well.
The only thing that makes the pc back operable is removing Avast. it was working fine before this version.

I must add that currently without Avast on the pc it works fine. Just unprotected

Is the computer bootable now ?

without Avast it is bootable and runs normally.

no other suggestions? thanks

See: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB37#artTitle

thanks, Asyn. The suggestion did not help … so I installed another anti-virus program with no problems.

wiish I could get Avast to work. :frowning:

You could try the latest beta: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=15

Thanks. I just loaded the latest version [11.2.2261] and the pc boots and runs normally.

Obviously Avast did something to correct the problem.

Sounds good.
