Hi congratulations first of all to AVAST for the the new version 5.0!,i like it downloaded it today,new orange GUI interface,clean,easy to use,user friendly,easy to register very fresh look nice one.
Ok i had version 4.8 installed no problems,tried to uninstall it in add/remove,wouls not have it!- came up with “no user rights message”,even turned off avast protection beforehand! and suspended threatfire and everything else might interfere,no luck,so downloaded aswClear.exe removal utility onto desktop ready to use as recommended and went into safe mode to use it,could not find it anywhere on the desktop where i downloaded to?or anywhere else must be some damn gremlin thieves about,so to cut long story short for ME what worked 100% to remove the old avast 4.8 version from my pc was as follows.
By the way i pre-downloaded the new free version 5.0 from the avast site then it directed to cnet for download,i downloaded it to my desktop ready to be easily installed after uninstalling version 4.8
1/GO TO SAFE MODE F8 WINDOWS XP
2/GO TO START/CONTROL PANEL/ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS
3/CLICK REMOVE/UNINSTALL AVAST
Reboot normal then install avast version 5.0
As a foot note here after i re-booted the pc i made sure the internet connection was disabled whilst i was intalling the new avast 5.0,then re-enabled it once installed and operational,my threatfire and firewall were on all the time though and antispyware,its an extra precaution i like to carry out in case of any possible nasties whilst installing.
Hope this helps someone who might have had trouble uninstalling 4.8.

Sorry forgot to summarise,have just scanned FULL SCAN seems a bit faster than before,i no nasties!,no lockups,no slow down of pc compared to version 4.8,no BSOD so far so good!!
Well maybe a positive input would be more useful than a stupid reply like that!,i thought better of this forum,suppose there is always jokers!,about as use as a lead ballon ha ha!!.

The full scan Is faster than version 4.8,also the quick scan too,sorry did not record times scanning 4.8 but from memory it was about 1 hr 50 mins full sacn.
Just wanted to say THANKS Vlk and to all the others on this forum. So far all of u have been so helpfull in solving many problems for many people here. Sorry have not posted anything yet had a few problems with one pc. One pc with xp installed and all is well no problem, great software i love Avast. Brand new windoz 7 install no problem works wonderfull.
Well then there is me and my desk top, oh boy. I will have to admit a lot of it was me and not Avast. Had problem with an old AVG that i had uninstalled but still was making problems. Thanks to this forum and someone posting the AVG remover tool that was took care of fast. Then the BSOD started after pc runs awile (4 to 8 ) hours. Several uninstalles and reinstalls and a lot of forum reading. Found i was doing it all wrong so started over.
So far works great and i sure hope so thanks avast and every helpfull person in the forum.
Avast is worth every peny just for the forum and the great bunch of people that help others in it. U people are WONDERFULL !!!
