New Version Blows off SSL/Thunderbird

All was well until the update - happens everytime - seemingly - when they update.

Anyone know how to set this bugger u to use SSL and Port 993 for Mail?

Any special reason to use IMAP and not pop3 ?

Huh? You IMAP vs POP3?

IMAP is used to access messages stored on the IMAP server. SMTP must still be used to send mail, as it must also be used with POP3.

Correct, what am I missing in your question? IMAP instead of POP3 as I want the messages on the server (using SSL) and SMTP, well SMTP for outgoing mail, using SSL.

My POP3 account (the one I have) works, but that isn’t a SSL connection.

I don’t use Thunderbird, so I don’t know if this link is applies to the current version of Thunderbird and/or Avast anymore. https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB91#artTitle

I use Pegasus Mail and Avast MailShield scans all messages, including GMail whether using POP3 or IMAP. Pegasus Mail has no problems with Avast certificates.

Thanks for that, I’d done that several versions ago and it didn’t help then.

It will work a STARTTLS on Port 143, which isn’t as secure as SSL on 993, but Avast has ALWAYS pi**ed Thunderbird off with their “upgrades”. I’d like to “uninstall” the update and downgrade, but I don’t know what the version was this replaced.
Id anyone knows, PLEASE let me know so I can start over, I had though I’d set it to NOT update unless I okay’ed it, but either I didn’t or it ran rough-shod over it.

Huh?

OH, I meant the previous version of Avast Free.

Now, it no longer checks mail (tested it) and I have to log into my accounts plain password, unencrypted.

Dandy, sad part is this is the best of the bunch.
