Thanks Essex. I had previously tried to change my homepage back to Google but it didn’t work but I tried it again in the Google Chrome settings and clicked the Google in the left box and Google in the right box and it seems to be working now. Seems to be allowing me to use Google in my searches and not the www1.search.com. It is still on my computer though and not sure how to delete it but for now seems to be working as I like it. Thanks greatly for your help!
I update Avast the same way you do but I did not get the hijacker. you must have picked it up in some other way. It just didn’t show up until you restarted after installing the Avast update.
@Briansdad, I originally thought the update to the newer version had given it to me but I must have picked it up somewhere else. Maybe my Avast didn’t detect it originally and maybe it didn’t actually start working until I restarted my computer. I know I have been using Avast for 2 or 3 years when i switched from AVG and I’ve always been happy with Avast. The only thing I’m not happy with is when I forget my sound is up and open my computer and Avast updates and that woman’s voice tells me “Avast has been updated.” Jumpin Jehoshaphat!! I nearly jump out of my seat when that surprises me. ;D
@essexboy, I only have Chrome and IE. I must have deleted Firefox in the past. It only shows in the Chrome settings “manage search engines” box. And in the left box beside that box, it just says “search results.” That left box is what I changed to “Google” and then changing it to Google in the right box (manage search engines box). After changing both of those, it stops redirecting my searches through www1.search-results and allows me to use Google.
