This is more of an FYI than a problem. I have a system running Windows XP SP3 with Zonealarm and Avast installed. I updated Avast from a previous version (I honestly don’t recall how old, perhaps more than a year), and after installing the update, I could not load any webpages or access any online content.
Upon disabling the Avast provider, internet connections would act as normal, and upon re-enabling them the connections would die.
I found out that it’s a problem with Zonealarm, HOWEVER, I had to “Allow” all of the Avast services in Zonealarm as both “Access” and “Server” modes. Leaving the “Server” modes as “ask” would result in no internet functionality.
Hopefully this saves others the time of discovering it themselves…lol
Thank you for providing that information. I have ZA on one computer. When I upgrade Avast I’ll keep this in mind.
Sincerely, Libra
Do you both have ZA as AV residents as well as Avast, or is ZA an internet security with firewall? Either way, I don’t believe ZA is compatible with Avast since both are running as resident. Two residents do not play well together. Can you clarify what you are running with ZA?
ZA antivirus is NOT compatible with avast. The ZA firewall is compatible with avast (free).
Thank you Tech for clarifying. Hopefully the OP’s read the message and are using the correct/compatible products on their machines.
Thank you both for questioning and clarifying the possible problem. I have ZA free that is only a firewall, so I shouldn’t have any problem with the new version of Avast.
Sincerely, Libra
