Just to know :is there a knew version of antivir avast! ?
I ask because I received for a few minutes an advertising on the right bottom ankle of my pc (near the clock) telling me it is ready to download.
(I have avast 4.7 free edition)Or is it a false alarm?

Yes there is a new program update, 4.7.981, you can always check out the avast.com home page as that always shows what the latest version is, see image.

No, it’s not needed.
avast upgrades are handled very well by the own installer, just upgrade.
Unless (and this is extremely rare) you’re specifically told otherwise, over-installation works just fine, and if you click that link, that’s what it does. Normally you’ll get a message afterwards saying you need to reboot, in order to get the updated versions into memory.
(Edit) I see Tech beat me by all of about 20 seconds. Quick-draw ain’t what she used to be, at my age.
