New version won't turn on.

FIRST…let me state clearly that I am as dumb as a bunch of rocks when it comes to computers…please use baby talk.

I was prompted to update to the new version of Avast, and it’s on my system, but it’s turned off and wont turn on.

It shows UNSECURED, but will not respond to fix now or start program.

Shields are all off, and when I try to start them individually, it says “shields unreachable”.

I have un-installed and re-installed, no help.

Any ideas ?

My Avast doing the exact same thing! How the heck do you get any help on this thing anyhow? Ticking me right off as i too am as dumb as gum when it comes to these computers! If you find help please send it thru! thanx R

well probably something in the update proces got broke…

we can do 2 things:

  1. Dig up what went wrong, spend 10 minutes or hours/days/weeks on finding and solving the problem
  2. uninstall avast and install from a fresh downloaded installer, and then dont care about what went wrong

To keep it simple, id go for option 2 :slight_smile:

Download these files:
avast uninstaller: http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe
avast installer: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe (almost 55MB)

Wait until BOTH downloads are finished

Run the aswclear.exe and uninstall avast.
Reboot (restart) the computer
Run the setup_av_free.exe and install Avast again
