New virus in Quicktime folder

Anti Vir 6 detected a Trojan Horse: TR/Drop.Agent.CP but avast did not detect it. It’s located in qttask.exe

What is the response of HijackThis?

Sadly I don’t have Hijack This :-[ I unistall Quicktime and remove all of it’s components and restart my computer. I’m rescanning everything now.

in the recent past I had similar problems with Winamp and Real Player: I’m sure that streaming downloads of multimedia files are very dangerous. now I configure my firewall for closing all the ports to media players. :-\

Alright here is my hijack log:

O9 - Extra button: AIM - {AC9E2541-2814-11d5-BC6D-00B0D0A1DE45} - C:\Program Files\AIM\aim.exe

O8 - Extra context menu item: &AIM Search - res://C:\Program Files\AIM Toolbar\AIMBar.dll/aimsearch.htm Nasty

Nasty The entry &AIM Search has been identified as nasty.

but thats just me, If you put it there and want to keep it thats fine
good luck

what about those that has (file missing)? :-\

Nasty huh? Well I don’t use those AIM toolbars so down the drain it goes.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive.

If it is confirmed as a virus, then if you can zip and password protect (‘virus’, will do) the suspect file and send it to virus @ avast.com (no spaces).

Give a brief outline of the problem, the fact that you believe it to be an undetected virus and include the password in the body of the email. Some info on the avast version and VPS number (see about avast {right click avast icon}) will also help.

Ignore any 023 reference to avast processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast), if you need any help with any of the analysis let us know.

Thanks for the advance actions, sadly I remove Quicktime and all of it’s components and restart my computer, the virus is gone, but so has Quicktime. Oh well, I never really like Quicktime anyway. Thansk for all your tips and info again. ;D

MFB Try Quick Time 7.0 if you have XP. Much improved, I think the windows version is already out.

if you have 98 I recommend 6.0.x

And Quicktime cant be infected that I know of are you sure it was not a false positive?

7.0 is out only for MAC for now …

MFB,
You could try Quicktime Alternative:

QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime (.mov .qt) files. This way there is no need to install the offical QuickTime Player. It also supports QuickTime content that is embedded in webpages. The QuickTime plugins include iPIX and QuickTimeVR. The QuickTime Browser plugin supports Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla and Netscape.
