??? “Avast Home Edition” Version 4.8" When I started the computer up tonight and went on line the “Avast” Icon left the system tray at the bottom of the screen about the time I connected to the internet. Has any one else experienced this?
I restarted the computer and all seems alright now.
I am afraid to take my eye off the system tray now.
Thanks,
iddawg
What is your operating system ?
The avast icon is only the interface to access the GUI and Program Settings, etc. it isn’t actually a part of the protection.
- What avast processes are running in Task Manager, they begin with ash or asw, see image ?
Unless you particularly like spam I suggest you remove your email address, this is a publicly available site and it could be harvested by a spambot collecting email addresses.
Agree with Davidr about removing your email address and the other information he gave you
also you can go into program settings-by right clicking on the blue icon or at menu after you go to the avast!scan interface and go to appearance and check show Avast!tray icon and the one below it to animate-i do
click on pic to enlarge
I running XP Home edition.
When I pull up the task manager the only process that shows it is running is “Fire Fox” my browser.
The “Avast” icon is in the system tray at the bottom of the screen and is active and rotating.
All this is so new to me any help given will be appreciated.
Thanks,
iddawg
When I bring up the task manager by hitting the following keys. “Ctrl”,
“Alt”, “Del” the only thing that is running is the browser nothing else.
Just thought I would add in the first instance when I said “Avast stopped”. The Avast icon in the system tray just disappeared completely.
I have been keeping an eye on the icon and it is animated and rotating.
Thanks for all your help.
Yes but are the avast processes in my image (click to enlarge it) running.
If the icon is present fine, when it is rotating it basically shows that something is being scanned so is a reasonably quick indication that avast is working.
In XP some icons could be hidden, by clicking the < arrow to the left of the clock it opens up the tray area.
Some other security software can kill the avast icon (though the avast self-defence module should try to prevent that.
What other security software do you have AdAware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Windows Defender, etc. ?
David,
what image?
Forgive me, yes I know it was your bedtime.
I believe David means the image in reply #1 as iddawg seems to be looking at the wrong tab in Task Manager.
CharleyO,
thanks for making me read with more attention … and, of course, my apology to David.
No problem … glad to help.
He He, no apology necessary, perhaps it was near your bed time ;D
