I am new to Avast and my concern is this. When I bring in my emails thru Outlook Express on Win XP it takes a very long time to get them in. Before they just came in bang, bang, bang. I have set the setting to normal as to speed things up a little but no luck. Please advise me what is wrong. Thanks.

Are you using avast WHS or a single computer with avast?
What is WHS anyway? I am a single computer using the free edition of Avast.

Do you get a lot of mail with attachments? If so, the mail scanning module has to look through all of those as well.

I notice that you used AVG prior to avast.
Have you removed AVG from your system and if so how did yo do that?
