Newbie needs guidance

Hi All, I’ve just downloaded and installed the latest version of Free to my Win7 SP1 laptop. I’ve gone through all the prompts to set-up and the final screen says I’m protected, but how do I know for sure? I don’t see anything different using Google Chrome. [UPDATE: I’ve enabled in Firefox, so that’s okay], but still wondering about Chrome. Also wonder if the Avast logo is added to Gmail signatures? I checked for it to be added, but don’t see it in my sent emails. Thanks for helping out this old grannie trying to keep safe on the internet while using Win7

Hi,

Avast Online Security browser extension - in Google Chrome, you should see a green shield (normally in the top right-hand corner)

If you use an email client (such as Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird), Avast may include a clean message (previously an email signature) at the bottom of your outgoing emails to let your recipients know that the email has been scanned for malware. This setting is enabled by default. https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Antivirus-email-signature

Thanks so much. For some reason, my Chrome did not get the Avast program installed. No little green icon anywhere. I’ve checked extensions and add-ons and it’s not there waiting for me to enable or whatever. Any ideas why Chrome didn’t get Avast added? Troubleshooting steps to take?

Note, I do have free versions of Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware installed on my computer but only for my weekly computer scan and not web protection. Could they be the problem with Chrome? Not bothering Firefox…

Thankfully Avast did install in Firefox so I’ll use it for my default browser until I can get Chrome figured out.

Thanks also for the explanation about the email ‘signature’.

Hi, you can download/install it here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/avast-online-security/gomekmidlodglbbmalcneegieacbdmki?hl=en

Thanks so much! It will automatically find and link to my existing Avast, right?

You’re welcome. (Yep, it should.)

Super, thanks! It worked!

You’re welcome.
