NewDotNet

Hi there not sure how much help this will be but just in case…

I had a problem 2 days ago with a Trojan called something like Win32… which Avast picked up but then I lost my internet connection, the firewall was turned off and I was unable to turn it back on etc

If this sounds familiar this is what I did and it seems to have worked for me…

As NewDotNet seemed to have been the route of the problem…

How to I Remove SaveNow or NewDotNet?

Both of these programs can generally be removed through the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel under Normal Circumstances.

  1. Click on Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs
  2. For SaveNow, search for Save!, SaveNow, or WhenUShop entries and click on Change/Remove to remove them
  3. For NewDotNet, look for New.Net Domains and choose to Remove it.
  4. Reboot your computer and SaveNow and NewdotNet should be removed.

By doing this I found the program was not completely removed but I proceeded as follows:

OK, I’ve Removed NewDotNet but now my browser does not work, What Now?

Because New.Net affects the Internet access on a computer, sometimes after removing it, you wont be able to go anywhere on the Internet. If this happens, follow these instructions.

  1. From a computer that has Internet access, click on one of the following links and download the program:

LSPFix by Cexx.org

Winsock XP Fix

  1. Download and save one of these programs to a 3-½ floppy disk.
  2. Insert the floppy disk into the floppy drive of the computer that needs to have our software uninstalled from.
  3. Open My Computer on the infected system.
  4. Double-click on Drive A.
  5. Run the WinsockXPFix file or the LSPfix file to fix broken Winsock connections

I did this and the internet connection was back again.

I then downloaded Spybot (S&D) and after a scan it found that loads of other common threats in addition to NewDotNet had been installed in my PC, clicked on fix and after a restart all relevant infected files were deleted.

I had Ad-aware with up to date definitions but this did not pick up NewDotNet or any of the others.

Anyway good luck if you have this type of problem

I think it will help, as will the other Topics relating to newdotnet (which have links to the Cexx.org and other information and removal instructions), such as:
NEWDOTNET - Check out this topic http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=21608.0

No needs to do all of this.

netsh winsock reset

this is enough to fix the issue

 Hi Noz :

"netsh winsock reset" works ONLY if one has
   Win XP SP2 .

Does that work for all windows versions ?

If that is all it needs great, I wonder why several sites give the long hand method ???

Edit: I guess Spiritsongs answered those questions.
