so, the title explains everything, I just installed the latest version of Avast on win xp and the biggest problem is that I can’t get the browsers (firefox and chrome) to connect to websites. If I disable avast protection everything goes back to normal and I can browse but that’s not a solution.
How can I fix this problem?
ps: I also installed the webrep plugin, if it matters.
But if it is installed (and disabled) it could be blocking avast components and then the browsing.
avast needs connection to scan the internet traffic.
I run SpyBot Search & Destroy, but have TeaTimer disabled so it doesn’t load at all. See http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/disable.html. It can cause conflicts during a program install or update: ie, it can block important registry changes.
Hi michelb-- Though it may not solve your issue, try checking out the thread at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100851.0 . If disabling Behavior Shield seems to solve the problem, try to identify the conflicting application (in my case, the Online Armor firewall). If not, check out any of SafeSurf’s other suggestions that may be relevant to your setup.
