Newsgroup Binary Download Problems

I am using Avast Home version 4.8.

I use a newsgroup reader (Usenet Explorer) that makes over 20 connections to the newsgroups simultaneously through 3 news servers.

Since a recent update of Avast, I am getting complete cessation of downloading from usenet at apparent random times.

When I disable Avast, I am then able to proceed.

Is there any other way to handle this issue? I have tried excluding the directories for the newsgroup reader and download directory but that seems to have no effect since the last upgrade of Avast.

Thanks. I have searched the forum for answers, but I cannot find any recent info. I realize that as one of the last dinosaurs to use the newsgroups, this issue does not affect many folks.

Depends on what you searched the forum for, if you checked the concurrent connections, I think you would have more success, like this one, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=36469.msg305874#msg305874.

This shows how to increase the maxconnections to say 50 this may not resolve the problem as Usenet Explorer may just gobble up the extra connections and the error just happens at a higher level. Let us know how you get on.

Resetting the maximum connections to 50 seems to have done the trick.

The maximum connections I use is currently around 30 or so.
