When are we going to see an update for Avast 2014, which properly is the worst Avast release in years. It’s clearly rushed, so it was ready for Windows 8.1, but oh boy did you screw up on this.
Personally I’ve had multiple major issues and multiple minor issues, which in the end has forced me to totally remove Avast. The software is riddled with mediocre features and features, which tries to upsell you to a larger version or premium service.
My last problem, which was the last straw, was how ridiculous bad the firewall is. I’m unable to ping my machine, I’m unable to RDP my machine, even though the settings are enabled in the firewall settings. It doesn’t even work when I disable the shields, but now that I have uninstalled Avast 2014 everything works perfectly.
Why the bleeeeeeeeeeeeeep do I pay for a larger version, if one the main features are useless. Take at look at the forum, it’s riddled with people having huge issues with Avast 2014. I really hope you are working day or night to fix this and until Avast 2014 gets out of beta, stop selling it.
I am having my clients continue to use version 8 until further notice. The version 8 installer is still working, then we set program updates to manual. This prevents my clients from having to deal with these issues, and I highly recommend this to you, as a real time solution to the “problem”
Sincerely,
J.R. “AutoSandbox Guy” Guthrie

As an aside I have windows 8.1 running Avast 2014 and I am experiencing no problems. With the plethora of programmes that can be run on the windows platform there is bound to be combinations that will conflict in some way or other. The ideal of course would be to determine which programmes they are, but that would be a herculean task, as any programme that installs a service/driver or runs at start could be the one that conflicts
Its a stressful thing when a software program doesn’t play nice and what was previously stated is also true; that coding a program to play nice with every other combination of software programs on various OS’s is a monumental task. The program has evolved and will continue to evolve which inherently will cause issues on occasion that will also be ironed out.
ALSO on a side note, I am running the latest Avast software on my XP and Windows 8.1 and aside from a couple of minor issues, all is running smooth and effectively
Hello, from my point of view this release has smoother start then any other in past. There are no significant issues and our beta phase was quite long. There will be issues - it’s only a software. We are thankful for any feedback which helps us to fix any particular issue which we missed in our testing environment.
We didn’t rush because of Windows 8.1 at all. These releases were coincidence.
Nope, I’ve uninstalled it. I’m a paying customer, I’m not here to beta test your software. Though this is the last time I’m paying for an Avast license, the quality of Avast software has been downhill for years now with buggy updates, mediocre features and fragmenting the user base with too many expensive services and features.
From my point of view, this seems very rushed, let me sum up my problems:
Stuck in Safezone! Because you didn’t test out Safezone in a multi-monitor setup, I was stuck in safezone, only spamming the ctrl-alt-del finally crashed/exited it.
Getting a “Page not found”, when logging into “My Devices”. How did you miss that one?
The entire firewall not working properly. Not able to ping or RDP my machine, even though it was turned on in settings and didn’t even work with every Avast shield off.
Bad danish translation with tons of errors and missing translations.
Action center kept reporting Avast firewall wasn’t running, which was fixed after a definition update though.
Mediocre features like Browser Cleanup, which has very bad results, reporting perfectly fine software as having low reputation.
Tons of advertisement in the software for premium services or more expensive editions, both for the PC version and the mobile version. Stop nagging me as a paying customer, I’m sick of this “upsell” mentality.
The uninstall worked alright though, only had to delete Avast folders from three different locations and clean up the reg db a little…
although it’s probably late as you uninstalled already - my comments just for a record
1, nobody ever said that you are a beta tester. It’s too late to join beta testing anyway. We had 2 months of beta testing phase. We had around 100.000 users who join this program. We fixed all critical and important issue which were found and reported. However eve with all the effort there will be issues left. If you would be more specific we can fix some of them
2, SafeZone - agreed, it could be improved in dual monitor environment. However I can see the Close “cross” on my second monitor.
3, “Page not found” - have you realized that it’s connecting to a server side? It might be a connection or a server side problem.
4, entire FW - come on, that’s unfair comment. really entire FW? Logs would help to check if you are blaming right component or program
5, danish translation - translation is provided by volunteers. Feel free to participate.
6, browser cleanup - again, logs, logs, logs or samples of the “fine software with bad reputation”
If I have to keep running a software, which is a pain in the ass, it feels very much like beta testing
And? It’s still a problem on your servers then.
Not really. I spend over an hour testing out port forwards from an external ip, and then from another machine on my network, only to realize it was Avast’s broken firewall which kept me from RDP, ping and SAMBA my machine. And worst of all, disabling firewall shield didn’t help, I had to uninstall Avast completely. If that’s not a broken firewall, I don’t what it is.
But yet you include it in your program, as part of the final product.
I’m running Win 7 Ultimate. I updated to Avast 2014 and have had nothing but problems with my PC since. My Auslogics disk defrag no longer works. I can’t get into the control panel and AdAware has been playing up. I’ve had to force start my PC 3 times to get it to log on properly and even then it was taking an age to log on and the PC has slowed right down. ‘Mailwasher’ will only work in the background which made it useless. When I disabled Avast I couldn’t get on the Internet. I tried to uninstall Avast but it wouldn’t respond and then my PC kept freezing. I had to force more restarts and eventually went into Safe mode and uninstalled Avast. Now my PC is back to it’s normal self. Avast should test their software before subjecting people to it. It’s taken me nearly 2 hours to fix and that’s only because I know what I’m doing. I’m absolutely livid. It’s made me very wary of Avast products and I’ve now posted on Facebook and twitter to warn people.
I am still using version 8 and will not “upgrade” to version 9 until these reported problems are fixed. From reading all of the problems in these forums it appears version 9 was rushed and should still be in beta. I am thankful to all of the people reporting problems with version 9. It keeps me form having a messed up computer.
Don’t forget this is a help and support forum. Most people here will come with problems and very rare praise. However, yes, I’d agree that there are some bugs that need to be addressed.
With the exception of some avast issues with ver 8 , avast was working fine. Then when i was advised to un-install and re-install the new 2014 AIS ver, avast ceased to work. I still dont have it running on my system at this time . And tech support want to put blame on my OS or the registry. No , my pc is working flawless just like it was before, the only thin that changed was maybe a java update …maybe? and virus update for avast. I guess avast is saying the virus updates caused my regisrty and OS to fail!! FAIL!
Also to add that avast phone support or tech support does not advocate or condone for its own forums and states i should not search or get help on here as it is not safe or credible. I wont even go into how absurd that sounds…
So going by your previous posts you would give up superior protection just for the reason that your unable to navigate the UI or like the look of it : why do you need to look at the UI anyway ??? for me once it’s installed that’s it, I don’t need to look at it as it works on it’s own without any input from me
So far all the PCs I maintain (~15) have been running v2014 fine without a single problem. Some updated, some were fresh installs.
I would love to run into problems myself so I could help the developers to fix it for me and other users as well.
2014 is a major release, and with userbase this big, bugs can be expected. Give it some time, it will be all right.
I really didn’t expect Avast would leave their customers in the dark for so long time, but I guess they have realized how many issues Avast 2014 has and it takes time to fix them.
So when are Avast 2014 moving from it’s current beta phase to a final build with the next update?
