Update fails with a.m. message. (not sufficient memory available)

Xperia Active, rooted, ICS, build 587, 100MB + free RAM, 47 MB free ROM, 13 GB free SD.

Restart does not help either.

Hi,

well 47MB free ROM isn’t that much. Can you install new apps or does Android tell you you are getting short of storage?

Filip

Just today I could update three apps. Two of them were less than 1 MB, but this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shpock.android&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zaHBvY2suYW5kcm9pZCJd has 5.5 MB.

I also have problems with youtoube, also a larger app.

Oh so you have problems with other apps as well, is that right?

Filip

Not apps, just one app, i.e. youtube.

Deleting data (3 out of a total 11 MB) did not help.

But uninstall and new install was now successful. It’s not the preferable way, but better than noting. It even remembers my old avast pin.

I just wanted to mention, that my Active had no problems do update the F1 timing App, which has 17MB! In don’t think, its a memory issue, that i had problems with avast a couple of days earlier.

Same procedure today. Update did not work. Uninstall and new installation worked. 50 MB free ROM.

Hmm, the thing is that during update there is both old and new versions present on the device at the same time. Maybe that’s the problem, your device with current storage space can handle the app itself, but not two of them.

Please note that 50mb free rom does not mean there is that much space on the system partition!! You need some MB free on /system!!

How can I manage this free memory on /system?

using tools like titanium you can delete some unneeded files there e.g. sound files.

I use Android Assistent, but this did not help for avast.

because it not treats the /system partition which is readonly and only accessible for write with special root tools (or via ADB).
