Hi team,
lately avast! upgraded to this new version 4.8.1335 and today when booted I have no avast! icon on task bar.
I’m using XPsp3, and this is very strange 'cause never had such issue in many years of use.
Cheers!!

What firewall are you using? Ashdisp.exe is the Avast! GUI component that needs to be running. Maybe just a reboot if you haven’t tried that yet.
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard or OnGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?
As a temporary measure until this is resolved you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers). Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut). You will need to run this after each boot until the problem is resolved.
hi guys,
shame on me! i still wonder how stupid i still are, the blue ball didn’t show up because my other security software prevent avast! from running after update (i needed to explicitly let those .exe run)
tnx a lot guys, avast!'s still a quality product and alwill company should be proud to have loyal fans like you guys.
BEST
You’re welcome, which other security program was the culprit ?
