One, I have repeatedly asked for help in getting rid of a license key demand for my subscription which was initiated on October 25, 2009. In addition to the download, I asked for and received an installation disc from element 5. I reinstalled this a.m. and the same annoyance continues. Two, Windows Security does not recognize this as a valid anti-virus program. Three, avast! scan throws the screen into skew which requires a restart. Four, this is the second time I’ve asked this question on this forum and can find no answer here either.
I don’t know how you have repeatedly asked for help, as this is according to your post count, your first post ???
Have you actually entered the License key that was sent by Element5 ?
The reason I ask is this roughly coincides with the end of the 60 day trial period, 25 October to 25 December 2009, after which time you would have to enter your license key.
Reinstalling won’t change anything, if anything it will make it worse, as having uninstalled the program it is taken as read that the trial is over having uninstalled it. If you install it again I think you have a 6 day grace period and this would start over, so it is essential that you enter the license key - Insert Registration Key - Video.
I can’t comment on the WCS issue as I don’t know what OS you are using and it is entirely possible that it is correct if the program is out of date or disabled having completed the trial if you haven’t entered the license key.
Which was your antivirus before avast?
Which is being recognized by WSC?
Which are other applications running? Other security programs?
Didn’t make myself clear. I’ve sent multiple messages to support and the first answer made no sense: [#UOB-546525]

It is mistake, we do not have such registrations.
Your license is valid for one year until Nov/16/2010.
I am also puzzled by no copy of first post on 12-2-09.
I sent Element5 the Info on the CD: Customer Name Ref #295126605 and have had no reply. I inserted a license key right after downloading the first time and used to be able to pull it up but no longer.
I’ve used Avast! for at least 3 years and upgraded last month. No other security programs running outside of Windows.
So you entered a license key in the same way as the video tutorial ?
If so what was the result as it should say it was accepted or it was invalid, etc. ?
For me the info on any installation disk is somewhat confusing (and may also be confusing support too), you should have got an email from element5 with your license key enclosed.
That is I would say what you should be entering and ignore the installation disk, I’m not sure what comes on this so called installation disk. If you had the Home version previously installed, then all you should have needed to do was enter the Pro License key into the home version (as in the tutorial) and the Home version would have been converted to the Pro version.
I upgraded October 25th and ordered a back up disc since we were planning on switching units after Christmas. The license key e-mail came from avast! The problem probably happened when we switched in November and I used the back-up disc from element5. I have never received a license key from element5, nor have I ever received any answer from them.
I would really just like to have someone from support at avast! to pick up on the closed case UOB-546525 which has all of the information I put into the system earlier. I cannot pull up any of that now from this end since there was no copy here of what I put into their format.
Sorry, difficult for me to understand what is going on with element5…
Digital River’s Element5 has no technical support and their order entry system can’t seem to locate my reference number. Since I didn’t really order from them they have no record, I guess, but since they don’t reply to my emails I don’t know how they managed to ship me the back-up disc.
In any case I have resubmitted my request to support@avast asking to reopen
Support ticket [#UOB-546525] which was stuck in sales, not tech.
Sorry for all the to and fro. I won’t bother you again and just wait for tech support at avast! to reply. Thank you.
Try contacting sales (at) avast (dot) com direct with the problem and give as much information as possible, including the closed support ticket, perhaps they can access it.
But for me the whole issue of a back-up disk (which I have never heard of in the past) may be what is confusing the problem. This from support suggests they are confused too “It is mistake, we do not have such registrations.” So I don’t know exactly what you said to prompt that response.
The way I see it you need a copy of your license right ?
Support seems to understand that you have a valid license “Your license is valid for one year until Nov/16/2010.” So you need a copy of that valid license and enter that in your installation of avast.
Hopefully sales will be able to find that license key also and send a copy to you.
Will do and thank you for your time.
You’re welcome.
I just downloaded Avast and did updates, registered license, scanned and completed everything. Had Avira where security reconized Avira. Now with Avast, security is NOT recognizing and I am unable to turn it on. I am running WVHome Edition, 32bit, and system is running smooth and clean. Please help if you can(1st time to post)

What version of Avira were you using? How was Avira removed? Was Avast installed after Avira was removed or before? You may need to reset the Security Centre. Actually, I’m glad he did since it reminded me that I still have not heard back from the home office as to why they still have not sent my license key or whether they would rather just forget it and credit my card. I’m fed up at this point. So, if you have any pull with the folks in CZ, please give them a heads-up. Perhaps, since I tend to be a bit snarly, they may have put my email into spam lockup. Thanks.

Don’t remember version but was for home use and free. Removed going into control panel and un installing there and was removed before installing Avast. Sorry for not starting new topic but appreciate your overnight response. Looked at Security Center today and I was monitoring myself and click to update and now issue has been resolved. SC now recognizes Avast so consider my issue resolved.
Thanks again
Did you contact sales as I suggested ?
We have no more pull that you, as another avast user like yourself.

Sorry to hear that; yes, I sent them an email with all the info, so I’ll try again. Thanks.
