No Avast Firewall Application Rules for Avast ?

Hi guys

Shortly after the release of Avast 12.2.2276 I did a clean install of Avast Internet Security.
Just today I noticed that no application rules are shown ( made ? ) for Avast in the Firewall : Avast - Tools - Firewall - Application Rules.
I beleve that they were shown in the past.
Or did I miss something ?

I don’t know if there are any predefined default Application rules, if not then a clean install would be starting from scratch.

If that were the case then saving/backing up the avast settings prior to the clean install.

Hello,

there should be predefined rules. Can you please give me more details (operating system, other security products, online/offline installer etc.)? We will investigate the issue.

Thank you, Libor

Hi Libor

Thank you for looking into this.

  • Win 7 x64
  • AIS
  • MBAM Premium, WinPatrol Plus, CryptoPrevent, Unchecky, MCShield, HOSTS File : MVPS + MDL
  • Offline Installer of version 12.2.2276

Yes I know, but sometimes starting all over again is forcing you to reconsidder settings/decisions etc.
And maybe you even find bugs

Hi Rednose

Don’t mean to hi-jack your topic.
Just thought I would also state I have the same no Application Rules for Avast.

On 2 computers Windows 10 pro 64 bit Version 1607 Build 14393-51

Hi croftypedro

That is not hijacking the topic, but confirming there is maybe a problem.
Thnx for reporting.

See below for existing firewall rules for SafeZone Browser.

This was not a clean install, but an update from within the gui from .2272 to .2276, so all firewall rules would’ve been carried over from version .2272 to the latest version.

So an incompleet set of Avast application rules.
I am pretty sure now we have found a bug.

Wonder if related? https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=189648.0

Could you please check Firewall → Settings → Default Rules? Do you have selected Auto-decide, or something else?

Thank you, Libor

Auto-decide.

Greetz, Red.

Auto-decide here as well

Same here.

What is the status of this issue ?

Greetz, Red.

This should be fixed. For verification use any program that communicates over network, for example open source program wget ( http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/wget.htm ) and from command line type wget http://google.com, new rule should be created in application rules → others.

Libor

Hi Libor,

But how should we fix it with our installations, so that the default rules for Avast are added ?
Only way I can think of is a clean install.

Greetz, Red.

If the method with wget works for you, there is no need to fix installation. Whenever you will be using a program that communicates over network using TCP/UDP, new rule will be created for corresponding ports with appropriate security level.

@ libor,
Time for Avast to identify you as an Avast Employee.
