No Avast icon in Tray

Hi all, I have installed and registered the Avast Home edition, install went O.K. but there is no icon in my System tray, I checked in Avast settings and the “Show in System tray” is ticked as is the animate icon.

Also my HDD led seems to be on/working all the time. ???

cheers

You can create your own avast shortcut icon by going this folder C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4 and
right click the icon name ashAvast than Send To-Desktop

doesn’t he mean the taskbar-symbol (downright corner) where usually should be the avast- and the VRDB-icon (if not included in the avast-icon)???

if that is meant then:

do you see the symbol in the list of symbols:

klick: start → in the startwindow klick with the right mouse button and choose “Settings” (or however it is named in the english windows) → go to the info-tab → klick on “customize”

is the avast-icon in this list?

Thanks for the replies… Yes i mean the icon at bottom right ((system tray - near the time). I just found out that if i disable the UAC, then the icon appears after i re-booted…If i enable the UAC, then the icon does not show ???.
I’ll re-enable the UAC and try what onlysomeone suggested.

cheers

UAC shouldn’t have been messing the icon. Never did to me.
Did you have any other antivirus in this computer in the past?

Yes I had F-Secure security suite installed (provided by my ISP) and called Optus Internet Security Suite. I uninstalled that as slowed my system down. I did a registry search and got rid of the remanents of it from the registry before i installed Avast.

I tried onlysomeones suggestion, but it didn’t work. :frowning:

cheers

Isn’t there any specific tool to get rid of remains of F-Secure in their website?
I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the last version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results and, particularly, post the last 200-250 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log
