Installed a the latest version of AIS 7.0.1456 (licensed) on my new laptop today, the option for adding a note to inbound or outbound email messages scanned and clean by Avast seems to be missing from the Mail settings. Has this feature been removed from Avast or is it hiding someplace new?
I still get the message showing on email sent from my desktop pc.
Yes it has been removed (it certainly isn’t in the settings.
Personally it was of little practical use other than in outbound email where it would serve as a handy promotion of avast (that is all I ever used it for). For inbound email it is pointless as A) you have to have opened the email to view it - and the damage could be done, B) avast alerts if there is an infected email and C) also places a notification in the Subject.
So if you don’t get an alert and or a notification in the subject it is clean.
Not to mention I don’t trust these messages for any AV as they can be faked.
If you check your email headers avast does put its mark their for outbound and inbound email.
Presumably you haven’t updated your desktop PC yet.
Thanks for the reply David, I wasn’t too sure if it was a defective download or whatever, no worries.
Funnily enough when sending/receiving email on the desktop pc (which has the same version as laptop) the scanned clean notes are still on the end of emails although there is no option in the mail setting, I assume it must be something already in the registry from a older version keeping it going. I was setting up a new laptop with AIS when the problem appeared.
I honestly don’t know how that is possible as the clean notes were text and html files that were inserted into the email, not just a registry setting as such and I can find no such files in the current installation.
What is the exact version on the desktop as this was fairly recent, 7.0.1426 (in the first RC build onwards), so it should have been in 7.0.1451 & 7.0.1456.
Weird - Unless this is somehow part of the AIS version, it certainly isn’t in the free version and I honestly can’t see how it is possible if the settings for it don’t exist (somewhere in AIS).
Do a search in that systems avast folders (Program Files and Docs&Settings/ProgramData) for *.html (and *.txt) and if the clean data files are present they should be there somewhere.
