No copy in Sent Box

Using XP and just dumped McAfee and installed Avast 4.6. I use Netscape Messenger for email and no problem before but now it will not allow me to keep a copy of my
messages in the sent box. I have returned to the Preferences and mark “put copy in sent box” but when I look, the check mark is always removed and testing does not put a copy in the sent box. Why does my request to put a copy in the sent box keep being removed?

I don’t think this is caused by avast!. avast! intercepts the connection to your e-mail server and scans the data, but whether the e-mail will or will not be stored in the Sent box, that’s an internal matter of Netscape (especially when you say that even the setting in the dialog is not preserved).
I’d say that your Netscape configuration got somehow corrupted, or you don’t have enough rights to store the setting (can you change other settings?)
I’m not very familiar with Netscape mail, however.

Thank you for the quick reply! I will check with Netscape. Yes, I can change other modifications in the Netscape Messenger and they stay put! I have never had the problem before using AVG, McAfee and even Norton, quite some time ago.
Anyway, I believe your absolutely right and something is corrupted. I’ll let you know how I make out after contacting Netscape.
Thanks again, Nain868

NO luck from Netscape on it being their problem. They contend there was no previous problem until I used Avast, and then if something became corrupted it was at that time. We tried a few things, but nothing worked to keep a copy in the Sent Box. Do you think it would help if I uninstalled Avast and tried again???

I doubt that that would make any difference, as Igor said “I don’t think this is caused by avast!.” It won’t hurt though, you could also try an uninstall, reboot, install of Netscape if that didn’t have any effect. Or if you can uninstall a component, Netscape Messenger only rather than the complete suite.

Thanks again, I have one more question since you were so kind to respond so quickly.
Because you have the opportunity to be in contact with so many people–do you see a trend toward compatibility of Avast with a particular browser, because I am open to change and if one is flowing, or more applicable I would like to know. Many thanks.

avast! is compatible with most mainstream browsers, I have seen few instances of problems with avast and browsers in the forums.

My personal preference is Firefox as it is not an integral part of the windows OS, it doesn’t use activeX and it doesn’t use BHOs (browser helper objects) all of these in my opinion make it more secure than IE (which I only use for very rare occasions when nothing else will work on a web site). My secondary browser is Avant, this uses the IE core code but has a more user friendly interface and easier configureation (I use this to visit windows update as you can’t do that with firefox). There are many other IE based browsers out there and there has been much discussion on their merits in the forums.

Thank you again, and just to add affirmation to your browser of choice, my own ISP technician whispered to me that he uses Firefox. They normally distribute Netscape with their program, but he also finds it better and easier to meld with other programs.
I feel a huge change coming here! Happy Spring and take care.
