No entry sign on blue ball

I downloaded the home addition and I’ve got the no entry sign over the blue ball in the system tray, how do I cancel that? Does this mean that Avast is switched off so that when I’m on-line I’ve got no protection?
Previously I uninstalled the application because there was a problem updating and then downloaded the programme again from scratch but now I have this no entry sign. I have registered and entered the key code.

Not necessarily. The icon on system tray is not the resident protection.

  1. Check the option in the Appearance tab of settings.
    or
  2. Repair your avast installation through Control Panel.
    or
  3. Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder
    or
  4. Add the path to ashDisp.exe into a value named avast! in the Windows Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

The red circle with a bar through it over the top of the avast ‘a’ icon is commonly associated which having another AV installed or remnants of a precious one.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

The suggestions given by Tech are for a ‘missing’ avast Icon and shouldn’t change this current status of a Red circle with bar over the ‘a’ icon.

I uninstalled AV to start with via Add/Remove Programmes because I couldn’t update any longer due to the fact that I had not updated for some time. Once uninstalled I downloaded the programme again.
Not knowing my old key number I opted for a new key.
The scanner module works okay but I’m concerned I haven’t got on-line protection
I’m using Win98 Second Ed

Sorry but that doesn’t answer my question on what previous (‘other’) AV as this is as I said the most common cause of this issue ?

Having reinstalled is the Red circle and bar still over the avast ‘a’ icon ?

I’ve sorted it. I downloaded another setup, this time direct. Then downloaded aswclear, then uninstalled avast via add/remove programmes, then used aewclear to get rid of the remaining bits and then. installed then new download. All’s well

OK, glad you have it sorted now.

Welcome to the forums.

You did an installation from the scratch… It usually solves ;D
