No help from the avast support techs, this sucks

I have the paid version of avast5 pro, a red X appeared on the icon when I start up the other day.
I tried the fix now button, nothing, I tried the start now button, nothing, I went into my change or uninstall options and tried the repair, nothing, I have been sending tickets to the techs for two days, NOTHING.
I ended up uninstalling and installing the free version, now I just want my money back or for them to send me the paid version so I can reinstall it. However I really want to go else where because their lack of consideration or ability to respond to someone in and form. Avast is a good program, but the tech team is unreal

They don’t need to send the paid version, you can download it as trial, then enter your license.avastlic file after installation - voilá, finished.

where would I find the license.avastic file

also I downloaded and am using the free version

Do you have a licence for Avast! Pro ??? If so you have a licence key you can transfer into a licence file here :

http://www.avast.com/resend-license.php

Be sure you use the same email address as when you bought your licence

Greetz, Red.

i am not sure where to find it, I may have erased that email, is there anyway for them to resend the key, I have the same email and credit info

browser their web site, there’s a link somewhere for “resend key”, probably once you’ve logged in to your account.

It should be somewhere on your pc, I suppose.
Search for “*.avastlic” across c:\

Anyway, I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
  7. Check and post the results.

tech,
do you think I should keep beating my head against the wall trying to get some tech support or for them to give me help, I paid for the program, erased it and reinstalled the free version already, I can not find the license key for the one I paid for. I guess simply put, is the free one all I need, and do you think they will feel any responsibility or are they even going to ever respond to my tickets. I thank everyone for their help, keep in mind please I am not that sharp of a computer guy, just know I need protection because I am in school online and also surf a lot.

Robin, I’d deeply sorry. I have problems almost 8 years ago when I’ve installed my first v4 version.
I get terrific support and found this particular nice forum.
So, you can get the same experience (I wish).
Just way a little to get sales to answer you after the weekend.
Welcome to avast forums and, again, sorry for your bad first experience.
We, users, try to do our best and share our experience.

thank you for your time and understanding

You’re welcome.

Robin, the problem is, when you send multiple tickets, you will always be put at the end of the queue.
So just send 1 ticket.
Also, you might want to contact sales@avast.com and put your problem there.
Problem is: if you deleted the emails from avast, it will be hard to prove the purchase. Don’t do that again. Also, safeguard the license.avastlic file once you regain it.
The free version is okay for now. Write that mail and they will come back to you - just be patient for 2 or 3 days. Okay.

Actually for any online purchase.

I use a PDF printer utility to print all my important emails to a PDF file. For all software purchases, copy all downloaded files for the software, and burn to a CD along with PDF emails.

A program like Keepass is great for storing licenses, what ever they are codes or small files, like the Avast licens file,

And mixed with a service like Dropbox, where you can store the keyfile from Keepass, which even saves earlier revisions and can undelete, you should be pretty save

Just remember to use a proper password on your keepass file off couse

Hey guys, this is Ruben. I purchased Avast 5 Internet Security last Friday and still haven’t received my license key. I have sent numerous emails, posted tickets at the support site and called the phone number listed for sales support. I haven’t gotten anything but auto-response messages. I did get an email with my purchase receipt but that is it, no email with the license key file.

Can anyone help me?

Ruben, sorry for that. The most we, users, can do is calling Alwil team attention to your problem.
Where (site) did you buy avast?

Also did your ISP remove the licence attachment as spam/virus ?

CEO must have all of Avast lost in their new offices hiding under desks for sleep and working all hours to code.

I’m kinda tired of random people claiming avast has no support or lack of support that responds within reasonable time.

Either something has majorly changed at Avast and just now seeing the effects or it’s been gradual and we are all blind to it since we (most active forum users) have little to no actual issues that needs the support team.

I know everyone is busy doing their part, working on projects etc. But I’d never thought I would think Avast has gotten the workload where the staff (all of which I find to be very knowledgeable) is working around the clock working to death. It has to be too much work and not enough who know the in’s and out’s of the product. I don’t think anyone has been laid off.

Already getting a bad vibe that something while going as well as it always has… an underlying issue (such as management etc).

Sorry to distract away from the user’s issue but I think this issue should been well resolved by now with the multiple tickets, email license issues, etc.
