Have you already used the search option on this board? If not, do so.
Many things have already been explained. No need to ask them again.
Did you (or do you) have another av installed? If so which one?
What OS?
What other security software do you have installed?
Yes I already made a search and try to fix but did not worked. I have win XP, with zone alarm pro, spyware blaster, Ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, and microsoft antispyware.
thanks for your quick response.
Did you receive and warning messages, during startup or later?
Is this the 60 trial or the registered/paid for Pro version?
What fix did you try that didn’t work?
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
Hi, DavidR, no warning message. I have the registered pro version.
Try avast external control, uninstall, reboot, install, repair whil I was connected to the net.
still nothing no icon!!
thanks.
Hi Tech, already did those 2 steps. any other idea?
thanks.
Check and see if ashDisp.exe in in the Startup section of msconfig, it may have been disabled (although I would have hoped AEC would have resolved that). Do you happen to have SpySweeper installed as this previously incorrectly detected ashDisp.exe as lop.com and deleted the entry? Start, Run, type msconfig. There should be an entry for avast! and pointing to ashDisp.exe.
You should still have protection as ashDisp.exe is the systray icon which gives access to the GUI, yes a pain but it is ashServ.exe that does the scanning.
What avast! entries have you got in Task Manager, they will begin with either ash or asw?
Hey thanks for your help. No ashDisp.exe in msconfig.
and in the task manager I have those:
ashEnhcdisp.exe
aswUpdSv.exe
ashWebSv.exe
ashMaiSv.exe
OK its working now, I created a shortcut of ashDisp.exe and pasted it in start up programs .
thanks a lot guys.
If you repair your installation through Control Panel the result could be the same… the startup item is placed, by default, into Common Users Registry Run key.
Are you sure it is working, because you haven’t got ashServ.exe (probably the most inportant one) in the list you gave.
