No icons in the system tray

I installed Avast a few weeks ago. I am concerned about the resident program because I see no icons in the system tray. Am I being silly, or should the icons be there?

Thanks
Phil

Hi and welcome ,
can you check your taskmanager (ctrl/alt/del) and see if 5 avast programs are running?
check this link

Thanks – I checked the processes running, and all four Avast programs are there. I uninstalled Avast and reinstalled, and still no icons in the sytem tray, and no way to look at the resident programs.

Ideas?

another link, maybe this time with some answers.

give them a try report back if you have any trouble
good luck

Download avast! External Control clicking on ‘Control’ in my signature.
Unzip it and run.
You’ll see avast! tweaker option.
Choose to show system tray icon and let us see if it helps.

Another way to fix the problem, just add the path to ashDisp.exe into
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
(as the value named avast!).

Are you by any chance using spysweeper?
If so, use the restore/recover or whatever it may be called to restore the deleted registry entry and update your definitions file for spysweeper. It reports incorrectly (false positive) the avast ashDisp.exe which is the icon you see on your system tray.
Other programs that can block are the startup monitors: PrevX, ProcessGuard, WinPatrol, TeaTimer, Ad-watch, etc.

Thank you Tech and Cloussau!

I use AdWatch, and it seems it was seems it was keeping ashDisp.exe from running. I added the value to the registry, and now it works fine. ;D
