I don’t know how or what happened but the two ball type icons that used to show in my taskbar are no longer showing. I was wondering how I get them back… Lets just say its a Virgo thing and I like things to be where they should. I am also not very comuter savvy so please explain in terms that a techinical blonde could understand. (no I am not a blonde and no offence to any blondes)
That thing happened to me before, I don’t why, anybody knows it? ??? What a Virgo thing? ???
Lately I uesd a lot this smiley ???, omg how ignorant am I… :-\
Virgo’s (anyone born aug 23 to sept 22) are well known for being perfectionists, like things to be done properly and methodical. Thats me :
If it has a purpose then its meant to be there and right now I want my rolly bally thingo on my taskbar so I know that avast is running properly. I am also not getting the message on startup that Avast has updated. grrrrrrrrr
I don't know how or what happened but the two ball type icons that used to show in my taskbar are no longer showingRepair avast by going Control Panel> Add and Remove Programs> Avast> Repair.
Should the repair option not resolve the problem:
avast! icon missing - As a temporary measure until this is resolved you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers). Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut). You will need to run this after each boot until the problem is resolved.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard or OnGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?
Check the option in the Appearance tab of Program Settings. Or Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder.
The only other program I have on the computer at present is Malwarebytes Anti - Malware. I will try the suggestions and let you know.
Does Malwarebytes have a startup monitoring function, if so check if it has disabled ashDisp.exe.
I don’t think Malwarebytes has such a feature. It’s an on-demand scanner.
I believe the MBAM (malware bytes anti-malware) is a paid for option, which I believe is different to the rogueremover tool we commonly suggest from malwarebytes.org.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware monitors every process and stops malicious processes before they even start. The Realtime Protection Module uses our advanced heuristic scanning technology which monitors your system to keep it safe and secure. In addition, we have implemented a threats center which will allow you to keep up to date with the latest malware threats
So I don’t know what exactly this real-time protection module in the quote consists of, perhaps oldman can shed some light on it.
I was talking about this software:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
The quote comes directly from that page you gave the link to.
I notice you have a big Red Purchase tag in your image which I assume won’t have the Realtime Protection mentioned in the quote.
So are you using the trial/shareware, I didn’t see a free version on the site downloads ?
No I dont have the paid for version of malwarebyte and as far as I can tell it doesnt have a startup function. I got it to test my machine for malware as my son (25) had been surfing porn on my old machine and that was full of malware and as he had been on this one a few times I was just checking.
Chele,
can you please let us know which version of avast you are using and on which operating system.
This kind of problem should not be happening with avast 4.8 on the newer Windows systems (WinXP, Vista).
I’m sure it is distributed as being freeware. The paid version has real time protection.

It’s strange. But I’m sure I won’t start using it if it was a shareware, for sure.
Alan coughs and asks … what happened to this being the thread of the original poster and the concern about icons appearing or not?
It may be nice for my friends in this forum to have a discussion about Malwarebyte … but there is/are perfectly good forums where you could take that discussion rather than appearing to “hijack” and ignore the original concerns of the poster of this thread.
I dont mind the divertion. I love finding out information about anything. I should have been a computer instead of a female
I’m glad you are enjoying the fun … but can you please help by answering the questions here?
Thanks
I would if I knew how to find out which version I have
Please understand that not all of us are computer savvy as some
Right click the “a” icon, click about avast.
The first line in the pop up window will tell you the version. You may have to click the + sign to see it.
Avast Home 4.8 Home… is that it?
