As of this morning the only way I can get my laptop online is by disabling Avast Internet Security. Ironically, that’s also the only way I can update the Avast engine and Virus definitions.
So I’ve got a Security system that’s so secure it’s determined the best way to keep me risk free is to deny me internet access.
I’m running the latest version of Windows 10. As soon as I disable Avast I am able to get online and all my apps like email and browsing work no problem.
Does anyone have any insight as to how I can use the software I paid for AND get internet access?
What operating system version of 10? 1607, 1703, 1709? 32-Bit?
What version of AIS?
Is avast firewall on or off? Is Windows Defender firewall on or off?
Did you ever have another antivirus installed? If so, how did you remove it?
Norton and McAfee have been notorious for denying users internet access when expired. Not saying this is the case for you. But left-over remnants after a normal uninstall can cause issue difficult to troubleshoot.
No doubt it did but I will have uninstalled it the day I bought it. Which means there’s no record of what it shipped with. However, this doesn’t explain why AVAST ran fine for 7 months and only recently became useless.
I checked my C drive and there was a Norton Backup folder so I’m guessing this laptop shipped with Norton AV. I ran the uninstaller (even though I uninstalled it via Windows months ago) as per https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us and it made zero difference to this problem. I’d like a refund for Avast please as this simply is not working.
