I run websites that rely on highly respected advertising but these are no longer visible on firefox.
Well that’s an end to the free web then, and my livelihood.

And how is that related to avast!..?? ???
I didn’t spell it out, did I. Sorry.
I installed Avast and it added itself in my Firefox browser. From that point I no longer received any ads at all. I ticked the various boxes to allow tracking etc, but still no ads. Only when I removed the Avast add-on for Firefox did the ads return.

That’s the VPS version. Which program version…??

Sorry, no idea then, as the AdBlocker has been dropped in V9.
Tracking blocking is also blocking ads since most ads “are tracking” you.
It is the same thing with IE built-in Tracking Protection. It can block all third party ads
(depending on the list or lists that are used).
I don’t use Avast online security so I don’t remember what is correct name of that option.
Untick, Block ad tracking by default.
See attachment.
I thought most Firefox users installed Adblock Plus these days and already blocked most ads.
Perhaps This is not the case ?
The tracking blocker is damn excellent… as for your livelihood, sorry but no remorse. All the web owners’ damned fault, they just cannot use common sense when it comes to advertising; ‘highly respected’ - gimme a break. Flood of blinking, sound-nagging, pop-up junk everywhere, full-page click-throughs, full-page background intrusive pics, ads left and right, as soon as I turn off AdBlock. Never more.
I started to block ads because the PC I was using was not the latest and greatest, and was bogged
down by all the ads trying to do their thing. Once I stopped the ads, browsing the web responded
just fine.
I agree, the businesses themselves have created this situation.
Yeah, not to mention the lag - not just on slower machines. The stupid JS code blocks loading pages until the bogged-down ads server bothers to repond, over and over again. Ditto for the social media crap - FB/Twitter/G+ buttons, tons of analytics everywhere, arrgh. >:(
How dare you? You have no idea what sites I run or the advertising policies I operate. We never run flashing, noisy or popup ads. What free sites are there are out there that don’t use advertising? No really!? I don’t run ANY, NOT ANY of the ones you mention there.
There’s a lot of ignorance out there regarding internet advertising.
Sorry, but - almost noone will unblock ads just because 1 site out of 100000 uses acceptable advertising practices. Get real. Ignorance? Yeah; website owners have been ignoring the users’ feedback and have been feeding any POS the advertisers asked them to for so long that they’ve just lost the income source pretty much forever. The experience is pretty much uniform everywhere - browsing the web without blocking ads is just unbearable.
Thankfully I’ve been running my site for 17 years and we are top of our niche. I have a loyal group of visitors that trust us and when we receive a single complaint about a particular ad then I get it removed. So please don’t tar us all with the same brush.
However if it becomes standard that browsers will block all ads then the net will die. You’ll be left with Twitter and their sponsored tweets, Facebook with their proprietary ads and online shops. Everything else will either be behind a paywall or die.
If you like a website and use it regularly then you should allow their ads. I realise the irony that I’m currently using a free virus checker but I’m looking for one that does what I need, and banning ads isn’t one. I don’t think I can support one that is giving me this ad-free experience. Perhaps there are switches that I can turn on and off but by I’m very uncomfortable that ads were off by default.
