No network connections after update

After updating to Avast 5.1.889. On Windows XP SP1,2&3. I have lost all network connections. Noetwork Connections empty. Cannot recognize network adapters. Instructed to ‘change netork services settings’ Not sure how to do this or why this has happened. Network connection wizard fails to launch.

I disabled avast before update was complete now every time I boot up avast is disabled.

Windows restore does not roll back to pre-update. It fails to completely bootup; background picture loads, no start menu, no desktop icons, Ctrl-Alt-Del loads up Task manager from where I can restart. On restart it goes back to pre restore with avast disabled and no network connections.

Please help if you think you can.

Kind regards

  1. Follow instructions here: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
  2. Reinstall avast.
  3. Restart your machine.
    Solved…??

Or do as Asyn suggested but install the version 6 beta instead of version 5.

That sorted it. Downloaded the removal tool to a USB stick on the other working laptop, then ran it in safe mode on my machine. Now all good. Installed Avast 5 from fresh. Still working fine. Cheers for the help.

You’re welcome…!

Still having problems just turned on the laptop in question and same problem no active shields and no network connections.

I can uninstall again but would really like some virus protection, not sure about running 6 beta. Is it ready tro run? anybody recommend it?

It runs stable here on XP, if you like you can download the latest beta here:
