No Network Connectivity with Avast Shields Enabled

After upgrading to Avast 9, I am unable to connect to the internet when the Avast shields are enabled. The internet works fine with the shields disabled but shows that it is unable to connect to the internet through any means when the shields are enabled (though the computer is still connected to the local network). I tried fiddling with the firewall settings (allowing svchost through), but am not having any success. ANy thoughts or solutions for this?

Thank you.

What firewall do you have ? Remove all entries relating to Avast in the firewall and then force the firewall to ask…

I only have Windows Firewall, but it seems broken as I have only been using Avast 8 for the firewall and it worked fine. So I currently don’t have any firewall running. When I try to enable Windows Firewall, I get the error:

"Windows firewall can't change some of your settings Error code 0x80070422"
I tried running the Windows Firewall service manually and I get:
Windows could not start the windows firewall service on local computer error 1068

I tried running “SFC /SCANNOW” but no problems were found. I’m lost, any thoughts?

Recently updated to Avast 2014. Running Windows 7 Pro, SP1. After updating lost ability to load web pages. Using Firefox v.24, Chrome v.30+, IE ver 10. Could ping all web sites, couldn’t load home pages. Disabled Avast security shield controls, could immediately access all web sites. I don’t want to keep the shields turned off. Is there a fix for this problem.

@ Jim Isom what firewall are you using ?

@bobbyboy29 was 2014 via an upgrade or a clean install ?
If upgrade then

Download Rejzor’s Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel

[]Unzip Rejzor’s tool to the desktop
[
]Run the tool and accept the usage
[]Once complete reboot your system
[
]Reinstall Avast

I guess the AVast firewall. Tried to check Windows firewall and got the message that Windows firewall was not using recommend settings. Tried to set ‘recommended settings’ and got the error message 80072404.

Same question for you Jim was this an upgrade or a clean install ?

It was an update. I’ve been using Avast for several years (paid version).

OK I would recommend doing a clean install using the information I posted for bobbyboy29 just above

Let me know how that goes

Phew glad to hear someone else is having the same problem Jim Isom.

Thanks for your help essexboy.

At first it was an upgrade, and I had the same problem. But when I first did it I thought something went wrong with the network configuration so I did a system restore back to version 8 because I didn’t want to hassle with figuring it out. After the system restore, the avast installation was complete broken (couldn’t even run the uninstaller) and I had to go to safe mode and remove Avast using the official uninstall utility (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility), and did a fresh install. After the fresh install, it was the same problem as before, but I discovered that disabling avast could let me use the internet - which is my current status. Should I still go through steps with Rejzor’s Uninstall Utility?

Yes please as Avast does not like system restore

Ok. Followed the steps, (disconnected from net, uninstalled, use Rejzor’s, rebooted, reinstalled). Unfortunately the internet is still unable to connect when the Firewall is on. Having the other shields on is fine.

Do you have any corrupt Avast NDIS drivers in Device Manager?

Ah yes I do:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Should I try uninstalling this? Will it automatically attempt to reinstall?
