No Network Shield

Hi.
Have Avast4.5 Home Edition on 3 of my computers at home, 1 desktop and 1 laptop running WinXP, and 1 laptop running Win98. They all have the same level programs, skins, etc.
I noticed today that the laptop running W98 only has 5 providers, while the other 2 have 6 providers. The W98 does not have the Network Shield provider.
Is this normal?
Thx.
Bob

According to the Avast! home page… Network Shield only works on NT systems!

Like Walker said, a new resident protection module was added to avast! 4.5: the Network Shield. It is only for Windows NT (2k or XP) and protects against known Internet worms/attacks. It analyses all network traffic and scans it for malicious contents. It can be also taken as a lightweight firewall (or more precisely, an IDS (Intrusion Detection System).

More info, just search the board fo Network Shield.

Welcome to avast forums

As Igor wrote, Win9x are not so vulnerable as WinNT+ systems (from Blaster/… viruses)

Note to the Alwill people:

Why isn’t the Network Shield mentioned on this page?

Ok, thx for the info.
