No New Window in IE since Avast Home installation

Since I installed Avast on my computer (Windows XP Pro SP 2) my IE refuse to open any new window, by clicking a link directed to a _blank window nor clicking in the open in a new window.

Any help on this?

avast! is not a firewall or a pop-up blocker.
It never closes IE windows… it can only scan HTTP traffic but, for sure, it won’t even have anything to scan when you open a blank window.
Which firewall do you use? Do you have a pop-up blocker? Are you saying you can even ‘start’ Internet Explorer because the window won’t appear?

IE start i can navigate web pages but since Avast is installed in my computer all links that results in a new window opened (popups) are broken. The “open in a new window” context menu option too!

my firewall is McAfee Personal Firewall

What do you mean by broken? That you see the error page like the page does not exist?
If you disable WebShield provider into avast! provider settings, will it work?

avast! does not change in any way the Context Menu of IE.
Are you sure you’re not infected? Did you run avast! and other spywares scanning?

Isn’t McAfee blocking new windows like pop-ups?
Do you have McAfee virusscan installed?

Have a look at Microsofts Knowledgebase, they have a article about this with the solution.
This is NOT a Avast error, but a little bug in IE.

It just happened to take place at the same time, which make it looks like it is Avast fault, but it is not.

Can you post the link of the Microsoft Knowlegdge base? I can’t find it.

Thanks

Sorry, I didn’t see the links :o
