No On-Access Scanner

I have just rebuilt my PC with Windows XP Prof. - I also installed SP3.
Problem is that although all Avast Services are running, and ashWebSV.exe and ashMailSv.exe also running,
I just don’t get the Avast On-Access Scanner in the taskbar bottom right.
Have scanned the system and no viruses reported. Should I be worried?

Thanks

Joaquin

I assume you are talking about a missing ’ a ’ icon ?

avast! icon missing - As a temporary measure until this is resolved you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers). Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut). You will need to run this after each boot until the problem is resolved.

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard or OnGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?

Check the option in the Appearance tab of Program Settings.
Or Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder.

Thanks for your reply.

The missing Icon is the one that normally appears next to the clock on the botton right of desktop.
I have put a shortcut to ashDisp.exe in the start-up folder but after booting the icon still doesn’t appear.

After rebuilding the OS just a few days ago I installed a new router and have no other security software
since I only use Windows Firewall and Avast. I use a registered copy of Registry fix to clean registry from
time to time. Thing is that the icon was there when I installed Avast and only misteriously disappeared
a couple of days ago.

If you run ashDisp.exe (double click the file), won’t the icon appear?

I have found the cause of this problem. It appears that notification area was disabled for some unknown reason. Have now
restored it to display using Gpedit.

Apologies for the inconvenience and thanks to all.

No problems. Glad that you’ve sorted it.
